5:30am...strawberries anyone?

I never blogged about the strawberry story, so here it is (most of it is straight from a journal entry).

05/03/2012 - Thomas at 11 days old

5:30am

I woke up to Michael's voice counting, "1, 2, 3." I rolled over and said to Aaron in a frantic voice, "Michael is in the kitchen!" (Thomas slept in the living room right by the kitchen, so I was a little worried.) I then said (while maybe pushing Aaron out of bed), "Hurry, go get him!" Aaron said, "Why can't you?!" I said, "I can't get up as fast as you!" (which was true, I just had a baby, right? :))

Come to find out Michael had woken up, walked through the dark living room, climbed up on his highchair, turned on the kitchen light, opened the fridge, pulled out some strawberries and started to eat. Aaron was WAY more tired than I was, so he put Michael back to bed, and then I finally got out of bed to help out with the situation! I asked Michael what he was doing and he said, "Getting strawberries." I told him I would put some orange juice in his sippy and that he needed to sleep until I woke him up in the morning. He went straight back to bed.

At first when I heard Michael in the kitchen I thought he was waking Thomas up (Michael LOVES Thomas), and that is why I was so worried. However, after making sure Michael was fine I went to back to bed chuckling about that crazy kid and didn't think twice about the few squeaks I heard from Thomas.

Fast forward an hour and fifteen minutes later:

6:45am

Thomas was crying. I knew he was hungry. I told Aaron (who had been getting up with me to feed Thomas a bottle while I pumped) to stay in bed and I would take care of both. I wasn't prepared for the shock of my life. I flipped the light on and saw Thomas looking like this:

It took me a second to realize the red was STRAWBERRIES! I pulled two strawberries out from behind Thomas' ear and face, and the left side of his head (along with his clothes and blanket) were all red. Oh my! I was seriously so grateful Michael didn't succeed at getting them in Thomas' mouth!

I fed Thomas and then showed him to Aaron (who was still in bed asleep) & took pictures before I changed his clothes and washed him down with a wet cloth and some baby shampoo. Oh boy! When Michael woke up (at 8:30am, thank you!) Aaron asked him to tell him a story. He said, "Michael, I want you tell me a story about the strawberries." The three of us cuddled in the big bed (Thomas was again asleep in his bed at this time) and Michael told us about the strawberries. Aaron asked him if he was the only one who ate the strawberries. He said yes, and Aaron said, "Anyone else?" Michael replied, "Thomas." Michael then proceeded to show us how Thomas had only "licked" them. haha. We taught him why Thomas can't eat real food and told him how dangerous it could be for the baby, and then tickled him.

That was at eleven days old. Thomas is now five months old.

I still can't leave the two boys alone or else there is always trouble. So grateful for angels watching over Thomas (and Michael) and so glad that we can laugh about the awesome strawberry story!
