In the past week I have happily filled out many surveys, ONLY because I support those seeking to improve the world with the information I give them. :)
First survey - BYU PR Lab Wellness Survey - I have a soft spot for BYU PR people.
Second survey - BYU Census Awarenss Survey - Yes, I will fill out the Census 2010, correctly, and send it back.
Third survey - BYU Graduation Survey - This took around 30 minutes, but it asked for some great feedback (which I was happy to give) about my grand BYU experience which is ending shortly!! :)
And then yesterday.
10:30am - phone rings
Me: "Hello,"
Nice Girl: "Hi, is this April? This is so and so from BYU. We got your information from the county records and it looks like you have a little baby boy."
Me: "Yes, he is almost five months."
Nice Girl: "Wonderful...would you like to participate in a short test for audio/visual something or other..."
Me: Sign me up. I'll be there.
Okay, so it didn't go quite like that, but once again, here I was being asked to help people make the world a better place - so of course, I was happy to do it. You know, it takes time, but I'm honestly all for taking surveys (for legitimate causes) and participating in focus groups and such - because I'VE BEEN THERE! I know it's tough to get people to participate, and I know that the information is often semi-helpful.
Fast forward to me picking up Aaron from school and both of us running through our days. In the car:
Me: So, next week Michael and I are going to participate in a BYU test for his audio/visual (I still don't know what it is) - AND we get a parking pass! (I'm thinking this is great because I get to park at the JFSB and then I can go and see Aaron after! Wahoo! I love parking passes!)
Aaron: What do you get for it?
Me: Nothing.
Aaron: (the look)
Me: I support the pursuit of knowledge and information!! It's only for like 5 minutes!!
You see, Aaron was used to me getting stuff in order to support others. For two other BYU groups (which I spent like maybe 40 minutes on) I ended up with $40 of gift cards to Walmart - wahoo! However, he was fine with it.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the sweet survey Aaron took (that came in the mail with a $1.00 bill), and got a $5.00 bill in the mail back for it. I remember it took Aaron like 10 seconds, and he said, "That's the fastest $5.00 I've ever made." :)
Isn't it interesting how many people want information from me? Yes, I am contributing to a better world in more ways than I thought. Thank you.

One time I made phone calls for a living. I've never had the heart to yell at a salesperson, since. Tell them I'm not interested, sure. Decline to answer? Ok. Be rude to their "face"? Nipped that one in the bud.
ReplyDeleteFunny how life teaches you to be nice to people. =)
